BenevolentAI, founded in 2013, creates and applies AI technologies to transform the way medicines are discovered and developed. BenevolentAI seeks to improve patients’ lives by applying technology designed to generate better data decision making and in doing so decrease drug discovery failure rates, lower drug development costs and increase the speed at which medicines are generated. The company has developed the Benevolent Platform™ - a discovery platform used by BenevolentAI scientists to find new ways to treat disease and personalise drugs for patients.

BenevolentAI is HQ’d in London with a research facility in Cambridge (UK) and an office in New York. BenevolentAI has active R&D drug programmes from discovery to Phase IIb in disease areas such as ALS, Atopic dermatitis, Ulcerative Colitis and Sarcopenia.


As a Project Manager, you will be responsible for managing target identification projects including the deployment of our technology to identify novel drug targets and the validation of those targets. 

In each project, you will work closely with a project leadership team representing the key functions; and you will coordinate the activities of an extended cross-functional group of north of a dozen internal highly skilled individual contributors and external collaborators and CROs. 

You will create a well structured plan with timelines and budget working with highly motivated partners across geographies to determine resource needs, propose priorities, and identify and manage risks. You will drive the execution of projects keeping individuals accountable for their work and leveraging a broader network to ensure continued engagement from stakeholders.

You will understand the different products developed at BenevolentAI, how they interact and apply this understanding to ensure a successful delivery. You will be a champion for best-practices in project management and embed better ways of working across the organisation.

With this in mind we are looking for a highly motivated Project Managers to ensure the successful delivery of our programmes which are at the core of our business.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Produce project plans, budgets and resource plans for complex projects; challenge assumptions for time, costs and risk in order to optimise project delivery

  • Expose risks and dependencies to identify sources of limitation and constraint. Access priorities and create mitigation plans 

  • Operational oversight of the project on a day-to-day basis in ensuring a smooth delivery across teams (both on site and remote)

  • Track and appropriately communicate status, decisions, actions, risks and issues to multiple stakeholders

  • Build and manage relationships with internal/external stakeholders appropriately

  • Manages team towards effective governance decisions

  • Take a broad perspective to identify new simpler, streamlined ways of working and opportunities to share best practice. 

  • Coordinate with other areas of the business such as product management, design and development

We’re looking for someone with...

  • Experience leading complex projects in either pharmaceutical/biotech/life sciences, or tech (ideally AI or machine learning) environments

  • Ability to lead a multiple disciplinary matrix team and delivering projects across geographies

  • Excellent organisation skills. Ability to multitask and work independently to demanding, changing schedules and priorities

  • Effective communicator with decisive yet collaborative leadership style and ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships across organisational boundaries

  • Can-do attitude, proactive and collaborative approach to problem solving and issue resolution

  • A sharp focus on delivery with the ability to scale activities and frameworks to suit project needs

  • Experience delivering using Agile/Scrum or waterfall methodologies and excellent working knowledge of project management tools

  • Proven experience in collaborating with development teams to accomplish defined goals in a timely manner

  • Experience of delivery of science-driven informatics solutions in a pharma company

  • A professional project management qualification e.g. PMP, PRINCE2, AgilePM
