Job Description

Director of Security Programs US/Canada 

  • Be the leader and expert on all matters pertaining to security operations, incident investigations, physical risk management and project and program management.

  • Develop and/or recommend overall strategies to ensure secure work spaces and positive member/customer experience. 

    • Coordinate the security strategy for all WeWork locations in assigned region in accordance with WeWork Global Security and Safety standards and policies.

  • Create and implement a strategic vision involving the intelligent and cost effective use of Access Control, Security Technology Management (CCTV, Sensors, etc) and Security Guard services to mitigate risk and respond to Service Requests. 

  • Designing and implementing an overall physical security risk management process for the Region, which includes an analysis of the financial impact on the company.

    • Performing a risk assessment: Analysing current risks and identifying potential risks that are affecting the company

    • Creating business continuity plans to limit risks

  • Strong Experience in creating an International Security Programme 

    • Multinational staff management experience

    • International law enforcement partnerships

  • Develop and maintain security-related processes and procedures for the region, ensuring they are synced with the wider Global Security and Safety Team and regional operations strategies.

  • Provide active and effective leadership and personnel management of a Regional Security Team.

    • Establish strategic business objectives/key results, key performance indicators, and mechanisms for their implementation to drive team-wide results.

  • Provide subject matter expertise to the regional executive staff on all security, safety, and related matters.

  • Develop quality assurance plans by conducting hazard analyses; identifying critical control points and preventive measures; establishing critical limits, monitoring procedures, corrective actions, and verification procedures. 

    • Develops process to validate work performed as well as time and attendance by Regional Security staff

  • Implement standards and trainings related to Service Contract Management,  Fire and Life Safety Programs, Crisis Planning and Emergency Response.

  • Conduct or direct threat or vulnerability analyses to determine probable frequency, criticality, consequence, or severity of natural or man-made disasters or criminal activity on the organization's profitability or delivery of products or services.

  • Conduct physical examinations of property to ensure compliance with security policies and regulations.

  • Monitor and measure service request tickets to ensure optimal performance and customer service.

  • Serve as primary security liaison and interface with industrial counterparts such as vendors, integrators and installers.

  • Overall responsibility for implementing successful access control/CCTV infrastructure as well as providing information, guidance and advice to best ensure the architectural framework is capable of sustaining WeWork’s global growth.

  • Oversee relationships and activities of various vendors, including for manned guarding and the service/installation of access control, CCTV, and other security systems.

    • Have knowledge and understanding of Labor Relations and union contracts

  • Continually find ways to leverage cost savings. 

  • In conjunction with Global Security and Safety, develop region-specific Crisis Management Plans and training, and take the lead on all widespread emergencies in the region that impact WeWork employees, members, and locations.

  • Develop, train and oversee security-training programs for employees and members

  • Responsible for understanding local laws and regulations in each municipality WeWork operates to offset corporate liability. 

  • Create and maintain relationships with local, state and federal law enforcement and other related government agencies.  

  • Identify root cause of issues or problems related both to  equipment or incidents and take steps to avoid recurrence.

  • Analyse incidents, building openings processes and scores, health and safety issues and incidents and other relevant data to identify trends and reduce recurrence.

  • Overall responsibility for Building Opening security-related tasks.

  • Recommend Regional and Territory specific security policies, standards, guidelines and procedures.  

  • Ensure thorough investigations are completed when required or directed, and that appropriate records and documents are prepared and stored.

    • As needed conduct detailed and in depth investigations 

  • Review deployment and duties of personnel assigned and adjust accordingly.

  • Be able to plan for, deploy appropriate resources and manage the security for large events.

  • Communicate regularly with Regional Operations team members and managers to exchange information, identify trends and recommend steps to reduce risk and improve member/customer/visitor experience

    • Conduct table-top exercises with Senior Operations team members/managers

  • Ensure trainings are conducted to support Community Teams and Building Operations in regards to Security and Safety topics.

  • Be responsible for preparation of annual budget and operate within its parameters.

  • Travel required as needed

  • Business hours but 24 X 7 availability and response may be required (other than approved leave and personal emergencies)

Qualifications

  • 10 years plus of security experience (including law enforcement) is required.

  • Strong working knowledge of market Security codes and regulations.

  • Experience in business continuity planning and provisioning.

  • Crisis and incident management training.

  • Ability to source, aggregate, digest, and act upon news and intelligence from various sources ranging from traditional media, social media, and open source platforms.

  • Experience in security design (technical and operational) in unique and challenging environments.

  • Ability to initiate and maintain extensive contacts with professionals and officials of other organizations and companies.

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

  • A commitment to delivering outstanding high end design.

  • Good Understanding of Security technology (CCTV, Alarms, access control) and basic networking concepts.

  • Excellent decision making skills.

  • Reliable, focused, and detail oriented.

  • Strong time management skills and experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Experience operating in enterprise systems with global reach.

  • Experience managing large scale projects with multiple deadlines and stakeholders.

  • 10+ years practical experience in physical security design and implementation.

  • 5+ years of client-facing experience in safety/security.

  • Law enforcement or Military background required
