Ultimately, the editorial team (including you) is responsible for protecting, elevating, and evolving the VICE voice, VICE story, and a variety of other interesting things that come your way. The Editorial team does a wide variety of work including but not limited to: developing creative for company initiatives. We thrive in self sufficiency and personal ownership over the work. VICE is looking for a passionate Senior Writer to join our fast-paced team of creative weirdos. 

Senior Staff Writer, News & Issues Desk

The News & Issues desk at is looking for an energetic, motivated senior staff writer to cover one or more of the following topics: race, inequality, environment, or health. The right person has an excellent news sense and a quick brain for thoughtful, timely, punchy, sometimes funny, always human, conversation-starting stories. Senior staff writers are expected to be leaders, internally and externally, in both their areas of coverage as well as their technical expertise in reporting. They publish conversation-leading original reporting regularly, consistently providing voice, fresh angles and innovative approaches and formats.

They are expected to mentor less-experienced reporters.

Senior staff writers will be judged on the following criteria:

  • Consistently breaking stories or producing conversation-leading work
  • Contributing ideas and/or work to newsroom initiatives and brainstorms
  • Strong source relationships with diverse and unique sources that produce demonstrable results
  • Advanced knowledge of their beat and ability to translate that into unique reporting and writing for both niche and general audiences
  • Strong familiarity with FOIA
  • Development of their audience with an eye on the topics, approaches and formats that resonate
  • Collaboration throughout the newsroom and willingness to mentor less-experienced reporters



  • 6 - 8 years of agency relevant writing experience. College degree.
  • A strong portfolio of writing projects
  • A strong voice to make your ideas yours, and we’ll do our best to make them real.
  • Energy to work we didn’t ask you to do. We’re sure you’re a passionate person, show it.
