To enable the most realistic and effective military simulations ever experienced, making defence users more effective on operations and decreasing the cost of military preparedness.  Your Mission You will be responsible for initially managing two teams, with the intention that you will grow an engineering manager for one of the teams. Currently the applied science and modelling group comprises 5 applied scientists, and 4 SWE’s. This group is planned to grow from 9 to 22 within the year, anchored around your leadership of the group. We envisage that you will leverage your experience leading data-scientists & researchers to develop the careers of our applied scientists and broader managerial skills to develop an engineering manager responsible for the engineers within the group. The responsibility of these teams is to provide the scientific models & tools that sit at the heart of our core product offering. We are interested in understanding the consequences of aggressive action on a society, whether it is a power station being destroyed, a road network becoming blocked, or fake news propagating through a social network - we seek to understand these consequences so that more resilient societies can be engineered and our defence and national security is at the cutting edge of capability. Areas for Impact You will be responsible for two teams that form the core of our product engineering effort. These teams are drawn from a broad range of backgrounds; scientific ( e.g. Mathematical Modelling), software (cloud & distributed systems), data science (machine learning). You will directly lead the scientific career path and will work to develop / hire an engineering manager to lead the engineers in the group You will also help guide scientific best practice, helping share knowledge and develop our process companywide You will act as a servant-leader, putting the team above the individual, promoting effectiveness through a happy work/life balance. To enable the most realistic and effective military simulations ever experienced, making defence users more effective on operations and decreasing the cost of military preparedness.  Your Mission ...is to lead the generation of a solid technical narrative and proposals for the defence business in response to customer and internal requirements. You will be key in helping consolidate and grow our defence business. You will be responsible for initially generating responses to RFIs and RFTs, mainly from government customers, as well as identifying new areas of business and working with business development to qualify leads. You will report to the Head of the Customer Team based in London. We expect that your role will grow in terms of scope and responsibility as our business scales and continues to create customer value. We anticipate expansion into new territories, building new teams and organisations, as well as new types of capability within our business. Areas for Impact You will be the first member of a critical team, helping us to grow and scale the function and deliver against our growth goals. You will lead the development of a proposals framework, drawing on best practice & your expertise. You will own all of the RFx (RFP, RFI, RFT, etc.) within Improbable Defence, setting up processes and tools to manage and monitor the pipeline internally and externally. You will draft and manage all proposals for new contracts, working cross-functionally and drawing upon the expertise of your colleagues. You will ensure our proposal process allows us to write proposals that are technically compliant, score well under evaluation, and are achievable post award You will lean-in on messaging messaging and content for external audiences including recruiting materials, online communications and product marketing materials. You will own the creation and use of technical narratives, documents and will maintain a library of approved content; to be updated continuously. Have you worked in Unreal Engine before? You will develop the lighting for our dynamic environment, skybox, weather and fog in the beautiful, dystopic world of Scavengers. You will create lighting setups for use in dynamic, in-game events. You will optimize for performance across a wide variety of devices. This is a technical position that requires an in-depth understanding of lighting, camera and shader concepts, and will involve hands-on development in UE4 Blueprint and the Material Editor. Responsibilities Develop lighting for a dynamic environment, skybox, weather and fog using UE4 Blueprint and Material Editor. Create lighting setups and sequences in service of dynamic, in-game events. Optimize lighting systems and materials for visual quality, clarity, ease-of-production and high performance. Work closely with other developers to create and continually improve lighting best practices across the game and studio. Generate high quality rendered assets for use in Marketing, Promotional and Social Media. Qualifications Previous shipped game industry experience. Solid Unreal Engine 4 knowledge, specifically in Dynamic Lighting, Blueprint and Material Authoring. Attention to detail, lighting and photography skills as demonstrated in a world-class portfolio. Understanding of PBR workflows and GPU rendering for creating optimized real-time lighting and materials. Communication, collaboration, time management and organizational skills.
