Apply Now Sales Development Representative at Deliveroo (View all jobs) TBC Why Deliveroo? When you first think about Deliveroo, you probably think of getting great food to your house in less than half an hour.  Awesome right? But behind the scenes is the real story. This story is one of high growth, huge challenges and an enormous opportunity ahead of us. It began with our founder Will, arriving in London over 5 years ago and finding it almost impossible to order great food, despite the wealth of incredible restaurants in the city.  Fast forward 5 years and we operate in 13 countries with over 50,000 riders who deliver orders from 50,000 restaurants in over 200 cities worldwide. We want to be the definitive food company - the app you go to any time you have a hunger pang. We are transforming the way people think about food. We are providing people with limitless access to different cuisines and restaurants, turning cooking from a chore to a choice, and giving people the freedom to eat what they want, when they want, where they want it. We work with riders, restaurants and consumers. We operate one of the most complex three sided marketplaces in the world and we do this in real time. Millions of customers and thousands of restaurants and riders rely on us to match them within milliseconds. The algorithms behind that marketplace are the secret sauce that allow us to deliver our orders in under 30 minutes. And we’re just getting started The scale of the opportunity ahead of us is immense. The global food market is valued at £7.7 trillion but only 1% of it is currently online. Contrast that with the digital disruption of countless other industries - from banking and travel to retail and communications - it’s clear that our journey in the food sector has only just begun.   We are already a multi-billion dollar company that is more than doubling in size every year.  Deliveroo came top in the FT’s’ list of Europe’s fastest growing 1000 companies in 2018, and we were the first company ever to win Deloitte’s ‘UK Top 50’ two years in a row. Yet most of the extraordinary value this company will generate lies ahead of us.   The Sales Development Representative will help hunt down the most popular local restaurants, seek to understand their business, and use your ninja phone negotiation skills to convince them why they need to join us in our mission to change the landscape of the food industry. The role will involve: Restaurant acquisition: You’ll be responsible for the prospecting, pitching and, with the help of our expert Business Development Managers (BDMs), closing new restaurants in your territory. This is an inside sales opportunity, so you’ll be comfortable with ambitious activity targets for cold calls, emails and social media. Own your pipeline: Take control over your own pipeline and use your organisation skills to manage your portfolio of leads and ensure strong conversion rates. Process Strategy: Iterate with our sales processes to make our inside sales unit the fastest-moving and biggest impact team within Deliveroo. Commercial Initiatives: Assist our wider commercial team with ad-hoc strategic initiatives like field pitch days, restaurant marketing roll-outs, and cross-functional projects   Requirements The right candidate will be hungry, ambitious and motivated to work within a fast moving environment. As a guide, the ideal person will possess the following: Experience within a fast moving sales environment, and if not; Experience and confidence pitching things you’re passionate about Phone-based sales experience is a big plus Ability to take ownership and work within demanding targets An interest in all things food and restaurants. Deliveroo is a company of people unapologetically passionate about what they do – if you’re not into food, you soon will be. Perseverance and grit – you’re a hustler, and you’re not afraid of rejection Competitiveness – you’ll be working within a highly efficient team who like to win (as individuals and together) Curiosity – you’re a lifelong learner who is always striving to be outside of your comfort zone and test new ideas Top notch people skills – you have bags of emotional intelligence and can persuade even the toughest of prospects Personal Qualities Perseverance and grit – you’re a hustler and you’re not afraid Competitiveness – you’ll be working within a highly efficient team who like to win (as individuals and together) Curiosity – you’re a lifelong learner who is always striving to be outside of your comfort zone and test new ideas Top notch people skills – you have bags of emotional intelligence which can be used to win round even the toughest of accounts Great communication and interpersonal skills in Cantonese  Life at Deliveroo We are a growing team, with very large impact, seeking to answer some of the most interesting questions out there. We move fast, we’re always looking for new ideas and we’re very transparent about the decisions we make and why we make them. There are so many questions we need to answer and plenty more we haven’t even encountered. How do data and technology help restaurants to grow as consumer habits change? How can we predict what someone wants to order for dinner long before the idea has even crossed their mind? At Deliveroo these are just some of the tough problems we are solving - and there is no challenge that cannot be yours. No solution is owned by a particular team, which means the scope for growth and personal impact is enormous. Benefits and Diversity At Deliveroo we know that people are the heart of the business and we prioritise their welfare. We offer a wide range of competitive benefits in areas including health, family, finance, community, convenience, growth, time away and relocation. In 2018 we announced our decision to give every employee equity in the company. We did this because we wanted all of our employees, regardless of location, level or role to be owners and because we believe that this is the right thing to do. We believe this helps build a culture where everyone is committed and able to share in the company’s success. We believe a great workplace is one that represents the world we live in and how beautifully diverse it can be. That means we have no judgement when it comes to any one of the things that make you who you are - your gender, race, sexuality, religion or a secret aversion to coriander. All you need is a passion for (most) food and a desire to be part of one of the fastest growing start-up’s around.

Apply Now Senior Software Engineer - Payments at Deliveroo (View all jobs) Edinburgh Senior Software Engineer, Payments Edinburgh    The role: As part of our Edinburgh team, you’ll develop solutions that ensure the best payment experience for the tens of thousands of riders and restaurants who use the Deliveroo platform every day. Using a variety of technologies, you’ll work with a team who cares about creating high quality, scalable code that moves millions of pounds, euros, dirhams and more every week.   Requirements: 5+ years of software engineering experience building web applications at scale 2+ years experience with at least one of the following languages: Go, Ruby, Python, Java, Scala Working experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and key-value stores (Memcache, Redis) You take pride in writing readable, well-designed software. You prefer simple solutions over complex ones. You’re interested in new technologies and tools, but understand the rationale for choosing Boring Technology . You believe in using the right tool for the job. You’re comfortable building and scaling systems in a growing services infrastructure. You are driven to improve performance, enhance code quality, and establish best practices for your team. You have a proven ability to get up to speed quickly. You are a team player and will learn whatever new skills or tools needed to get the job done. You have the initiative and communication skills to build relationships with colleagues on different teams to solve fundamental business problems. Bonus points for experience with front-end technologies (we use React)   Deliveroo in Edinburgh: Deliveroo have announced plans to create 70 tech jobs in 2020. In 2019, Deliveroo acquired Cultivate, an Edinburgh-based software consultancy. Cultivate built a strong reputation for high quality software development, and were a core member of the Edinburgh tech ecosystem. Deliveroo and Cultivate built a strong relationship over a number of years, as the team helped build our global payments systems. The team joined Deliveroo full-time, and we're building on their strong foundations of high quality software and community support. BBC news article on Deliveroo creating 70 tech jobs in Edinburgh in 2020: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-business-51027558 Our vision for Payments: To be the partners of choice to riders and restaurants, enabling them to have access to their earnings whenever they like. Helping restaurants to understand their own businesses and helping them to grow.   Why is the Payments space exciting? Our Edinburgh tech hub is predominantly focused on Payments! We sit at the centre of a 3-sided marketplace which is very rare. There are lots of 2-sided marketplaces, but 3-sided requires an order of magnitude with more money movement. Payments touch all 3 sides of our marketplace. Specifically our Payouts team in Edinburgh is exciting because we are empowering growth in local economies for restaurants and riders in the area including students and those who need more flexible work. We have large technical scaling challenges to reliably pay some of the largest restaurant chains in the world millions of pounds accurately and on time every week.   On the product side, we have the complex task of explaining all this money movement to small business owners like restaurants who already have a hard enough time with the finances. Making this simple to understand is a real product, design and technical challenge to solve collaboratively.   Why is Deliveroo exciting? 100% year on year growth. Challenges include scaling the product, team, technical systems and processes. A system that used to just have 5 engineers working on it now has 150 resulting in technical and people challenges. We operate in 13 countries with over 60,000 riders! They deliver millions of orders from 85,000 restaurants in well over 500 cities worldwide!  Our work has both depth and breadth: the number of users we are affecting is over a million people a week and each team owns a large area of our product. At large tech companies there’s often high depth of affecting billions of people but there tends to be very little breadth in which you only work on a very narrow slice of a product. At startups, you often affect very few people but may own the entire system. At Deliveroo, you can often do both!   And we’re just getting started: The scale of the opportunity ahead of us is immense. The global food market is valued at £7.7 trillion but only 1% of it is currently online. Contrast that with the digital disruption of countless other industries - from banking and travel to retail and communications - it’s clear that our journey in the food sector has only just begun. Our ambition is to be the definitive food company, feeding people three times a day with great food from the World's best-loved restaurants, all with an unparalleled level of convenience. Benefits and diversity: At Deliveroo we know that people are the heart of the business and we prioritise their welfare. We offer a wide range of competitive benefits in areas including health, family, finance, community, convenience, growth, time away and relocation. In 2018, we announced our decision to give every employee equity in the company. Apply Now Staff Software Engineer - Payments at Deliveroo (View all jobs) Edinburgh Staff Software Engineer, Payments Edinburgh    The role: As part of our Edinburgh team, you’ll develop solutions that ensure the best payment experience for the tens of thousands of riders and restaurants who use the Deliveroo platform every day. Using a variety of technologies, you’ll work with a team who cares about creating high quality, scalable code that moves millions of pounds, euros, dirhams and more every week.   Requirements: Pride in readable, well-designed, well-tested software 7 or more years professional experience writing web-based applications in any language, and a willingness to quickly get up to speed on our stack (Ruby/Rails, Go, Python or Scala) Experience with TDD environments (RSpec, Minitest, Capybara, Selenium) Experience with relational databases (PostGreSQL, MySQL) and key-value stores (Memcache, Redis) Experience with front-end web technology, bonus points for React Experience with web architecture at scale (20krpm and above) Experience with PostGIS, or any geography-heavy applications Experience with "NoSQL" data backends (Redis, MongoDB, ElasticSearch) Experience solving logistical problems with software   Deliveroo in Edinburgh: In 2019, Deliveroo acquired Cultivate, an Edinburgh-based software design and development consultancy specialising in the development of customer software applications. Cultivate had built a strong reputation for high quality software development, and were working closely with Deliveroo on the development of our payments stack. This strong relationship led to the successful acquisition. Building on the strong foundations of Cultivate in the Edinburgh tech ecosystem, Deliveroo is striving to build Edinburgh’s best engineering organisation to grow to a tech hub of 70 in 2020! Building systems from the ground up and shaping the future of food tech. Opportunity to establish Deliveroo on the ground with a new team in Edinburgh.   Our vision for Payments: To be the partners of choice to riders and restaurants, enabling them to have access to their earnings whenever they like.
