We are audio-first, vérité focused, and borderless.     Scope of Assignment x You VICE Audio is producing a limited run series looking at the decline of democracy globally and seeks an experienced freelance field producer to work as part of our team for a short-term (six month) assignment. There is also the possibility of a regular position after six months. As a producer you will be responsible for researching and reporting features, writing scripts, cutting tape and assembling mixes in Protools, participating in team edits, pre-interviewing and booking guests for host segments, working with the host to produce stories in the field, helping out with other day-to-day planning, problem solving and finally, being part of a dynamic production team. You will ensure that several pieces of international i-D content are featured on the China site every day.  • You will be responsible for enhancing the editorial quality of i-D’s digital output with an emphasis on building Gen Z audiences across all of i-D’s digital platforms in China. • You will manage the content flow onto the site as well as aligning all content across China Socials and liaising with members of other departments where applicable.  • You will be expected to undertake standard editorial duties (writing, editing, generating story ideas) when called upon, as well as managing editorial input into commercial endeavours and supporting the commercial team where necessary.  • You will propose creatives and casting, hire external freelancers, and manage content production for China’s editorial content, photo shoots, and from time to time video production in coordination with relevant team members. • You will be the guardian and protector of the i-D editorial brand in China.  • You will be responsible for editorial integrity, which includes but is not limited to; fact-checking, knowledge of and abiding by China laws and ensuring the editorial never veers towards discriminatory themes  • You will be able to work quickly under pressure while maintaining sky-high editorial standards   Skills & Experience  • You will have proven journalism experience, ideally in a capacity where you’ve helped shape the tone of voice and content for a leading brand  • You will have expert knowledge of Fashion and a passion for pushing culture forward.  • You’ve demonstrated an in-depth knowledge of digital journalism and exceptional strategic thinking • You will have previous experience of managing and mentoring staff writers and being able to give constructive feedback on ideas, stories, and style  • A quick and agile thinker, you’ll be used to working in a fast-paced dynamic environment and can react quickly and appropriately  • You’ll be able to multitask assignments and prioritize accordingly  • You’ll have strong editing skills with acute attention to detail • You have an innate understanding and instinct as to what makes a good i-D story  • You’ll have demonstrated an ability to understand, analyse and interpret audience readership data and react to trends and demands.  • Casting skills with a wide network of connections in the industry, especially with Gen-Z and millennials  • Speaks fluent English and Chinese

Role x You As producer for Vice News Tonight and other Vice News platforms, you are always ready to get out there and make stuff. In the short term… you will pitch stories that you find fascinating, tell us why, and then go out into the world and make them. After 6 months in this role… You’ll know exactly the kind of pitch that will get greenlit and you’re making pieces you’re passionate about every month. You’ll delve into specialty fields and maybe even pitch a full special or show. And after a year.. You will have a lot of pieces under your belt, constantly pushing the limit and thinking differently, and training new members of the staff on how to do it the right way.
